Atlanta, Georgia, 8 Sep 92 -- Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc. today
announced Version 3.4 of Smartcom II for the Macintosh - the simple-to-use, yet
powerful, communications program that takes full advantage of the unique
graphics capabilities of all computers in the Macintosh family. Version 3.4
provides the same capabilities as Version 3.3, but now features full language
capability for French, German and English, and adds support for Minitel
terminal emulation for use with Videotex color graphics services.
Smartcom II for the Macintosh automates communications with Autopilots and,
besides Minitel, provides a variety of other terminal emulations such as TTY,
VT102/52, ANSI.SYS and Prestel. The software also provides error-free file
transfer protocols, such as XModem, YModem, ZModem, Sliding Windows Kermit,
CompuServe B Plus, and support for MacBinary II. This internationally award
winning software supports connection tools through the Macintosh Communications
Toolbox, and System 7.0 through the use of Balloon Help and required
AppleEvents. In addition, the software's automatic buffering saves received
screens in program memory for users to peruse at any time. The icon-driven
interface and online help system make Smartcom II for the Macintosh
truly user-friendly, while the powerful Autopilot Learn feature and on-screen
buttons ease the task of automation.
"Smartcom II for the Macintosh has been recognized by users and reviewers as
one of the most inexpensive, reliable, easy-to-use communications software
packages available for the Macintosh," said Hayes President Dennis C. Hayes.
"Now we've expanded the software's capabilities by adding language support and
features that are tailored specifically for users in Europe. We believe that
multi-national companies will want to standardize on Smartcom worldwide because
of its support of languages."
The Minitel emulator supports text and color graphics and is designed for use
with the French Teletel network. Smartcom II for the Macintosh's
implementation supports both the Videotex mode, with 24 lines by 40 columns
and the Mixed mode, with 24 lines by 80 columns. Automatic switching between
the modes and automatic switching to the ASCII data mode are supported.
On-screen buttons can be used for Minitel-specific functions and the icon-based
Autopilot editor creates connection sequences for often-used services.
Users of Version 3.4 can switch between English, French and German regardless
of the initial language version purchased by downloading the resource and help
files available free from the Online with Hayes Bulletin Board System, or Hayes
special interest areas on CompuServe, CIX and GEnie information services.
Smartcom II for the Macintosh Version 3.4 will be available later this month
for US$149 or CDN$199. Users of earlier versions of Smartcom II for the
Macintosh can upgrade to Version 3.4 for US$35 and CDN$50 through Hayes
Customer Service. Hayes Multi-Copy Software Licensing Program enables
businesses as well as government, financial and educational institutions to
make 10, 100, 500, or 1000 authorized copies of Smartcom II for the Macintosh
for use at any user location, not just at one site. Those customers who are
interested in a Site License should contact Hayes Customer Service.
